CARLOS GARCIA
ABOUT ME
I am a fifth-year architecture student at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, graduating in June 2025 and available to start full-time in July 2025. Growing up in Los Angeles has shaped my creative perspective, inspiring me to pursue innovative and detail-oriented design. I am currently seeking a full-time, entry-level position at a design-focused firm where I can contribute to meaningful projects and work toward achieving my architectural licensure.
Driven by a strong work ethic, I am committed to learning and delivering excellence in every task I undertake. My goal is to leverage my skills and experiences to enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities while promoting sustainable and thoughtful design solutions. I am eager to embrace new opportunities that will allow me to grow and advance in my architectural career.
Below are my selected works and a bit more about myself.
junior designer
When I'm not in the studio or designing, I stay active through rock climbing and weightlifting. I believe in maintaining an athletic lifestyle to nurture both the mind and body. Photography is another passion of mine, and my love for learning drives me to constantly improve my skills behind the lens. Additionally, I’ve always had a deep connection to crafting and creating with my hands—a value instilled in me from working alongside my father.

A client approached the firm to design and permit an Accessory Dwelling Unit in SLO. I was tasked to manage the project at the DD, SD, and CD phase all under the supervision of Chris Allen. The client tasked us to design a unit that is contemporary, 1000 sq. ft., and four bedroom unit. I was able to design the unit and manage communication to the client or consultants to have a built project.

Pacoima is not defined by a bustling downtown or a commodified branding. Instead the city can only be truly known through its culture, fostered by its people. The community takes pride in their engagement and identity by bringing tradition, place, and leaders forward. As a Pacoima native, I see how culture has brought people to engage in community events and battle through hardships. Through culture, people have engaged to install art throughout the community to showcase the rich history of Pacoima like legendary musicians like Richie Valens. Driven through passion for their home, 5 residents from Pacoima reached Washington in hopes to represent a marginalized community.
People here love to celebrate their identity and culture in a place they call their hometown, however through zoning and imposed infrastructure, the government has stepped into the city in hopes to c create a better place without the input of the people. Throughout the years, infrastructure like freeway 118 and 5, has physically bound Pacoima through the construction of edifices.
Today we know the definition of infrastructure as a system of public works or the foundation of a city. Instead I am redefining infrastructure to demonstrate the celebration of culture of a place. By introducing community led design and incomplete form, cultural infrastructure can have a significant impact on the celebration of place and identity. With partial form, the community of Pacoima has the opportunity to create solutions to their preferred needs. How can we redefine and design infrastructure that functions within the realm of the community, but also nurtures a sense of belonging and safety in the places we call home?

The piece represents the dichotomy of disassembly and assembly. While the components separate, in doing so they create a union of functions to foster community.
